Most of the programs associated with the GRRPC take place at our indoor 50 foot shooting facility. Although some of our league programs do travel.
Usually our programs run once a week from October to April, however if there is interest, some programs do continue through the summer. See the range hours for nightly programs and times. The following is a description of each of our programs.
BASIC
PISTOL MARKSMANSHIP CLASS (TYRO)
GRRP will be
holding Basic
Pistol Marksmanship Classes for 6 weeks. Class will be held on Saturday
afternoon from 3:30-6 pm. This course is designed for new
shooters. Terry Dunn and Brian Keelean instruct shooters on how to
become proficient in the sport of Bullseye shooting as well as Basic
Pistol Marksmanship. They have over 45 years teaching experience between them. Their class has produced the State Pistol Champion, Indoors and Outdoors for the last five years, and one High Master and two Masters along with some very good up and coming shooters.
They cover
everything from preparation to psychology–the instructors even
talk on the nuances of how to properly breathe while shooting and how
this effects you physically as well as mentally.
Along with
lecture time and q & a's, shooters get hands-on training.
You join in drills, practice techniques and shoot competitive matches.
You get a good taste for how an actual match is run when the guys take
you through the paces. And, there's lots of personal instruction for
each student as the coaches observe the line.
During the 6
week course each shooter is shown how to draw up a plan and
determine and set a goal, then is given the tools to obtain their
goals. Goals are measured throughout the training period by one-on-one
assessments done by the coaches. This time is also meant for questions,
suggestions and direction.
In addition
to the shooting fundamentals and individual training, the duo covers
equipment, ammo, gun safety, NRA sanctioned matches and
other related topics.
The class
uses .22 caliber pistols only; eye and ear protection will be
required. The cost of the program is $100.00 for six meetings and includes annual membership, targets and range fees. See a Range
Officer at GRRP or Contact Terry Dunn: terrygd@aol.com
