GRRPC MEMBER WINS TOP HONORS CMP Handicap System Worked in His Favour
July 13, 2008, Camp Perry, OH
Ross Chesley came out on top during the Civilian Marksmanship Program's President's Pistol Match. The handicap system helps encourage new competitors by awarding them for their outstanding accomplishments - something Mr. Chesley might agree was a boost for his "shooting ego". home
August, 2007, West Michigan Rifle
& Pistol Club, Ionia, MI
This year's match brought about a hat trick for
Jolan Jackson as he pulled off his first state championship win in less
then 6 years of shooting. If that wasn't enough he also earned 8 points
toward his "Distinguished Pistol Shot" medal during the leg match. The
third accomplishment came via the first place win for the master class.
In addition to these great recognitions the MASTER class team comprised
of Chuck VandenBerg, Randy Tomac, Ron Reese and Jolan took the first
place award. More info to come as it becomes available.

GRRPC MEMBER HELPS BREAK NATIONAL
RECORD
June 3, 2005, All States National Pistol Championships,
Baltimore, MD
When asked to fill-in on the Les Baer Custom Women's Team for the team
matches during the Infinity US Open All States Championship, GRRPC
member, Denise Scott Jackson, gratefully excepted. Known nation-wide
for their outstanding marksmanship, the all-woman team is distinguished
by their numerous accomplishments, and now they have a new national
record to add to their resume: National Record for .45 Caliber Pistol
Women's Team. The former record, held by the Army Women's Team, stood
for 35 years. The team comprised of (left to right) Kimberly Hobart of Ohio, Kim Radford of Florida, Denise
Scott Jackson of Michigan, and Kathy
Chatterton of New Jersey, shot the new national record of 1136-31x on
June 3, 2005. GRRPC is pleased to announce that Denise has been asked
to join the Les Baer Custom Team to become their newest member.

GRRP
ACTIVE WITH MICHIGAN VETS
GRRP completed its forth successful
year of the Veterans Program for
the residents of the Michigan Home for Veterans. We had over twenty
fellows participate this year. With an average
attendance of nine shooters per week. In a few cases, the guys dropped
out because they felt that their performance was below what they
expected; brought about by the stellar shooting of some of the others.
An example of this was the almost unbelievable scores consistently shot
by one of the oldest and wheelchair-bound shooters, who because of his
physical debilitation, couldn't’t even operate the bolt of the rifle—but
he could aim and fire with a precision adequate to shoot in the mid to
high nineties on the Light Rifle Target! One of our range officers
assisted him in loading.
All of the shooters showed
excellent improvement as the season
progressed. Most of the shooters had scores in the mid thirties at the
beginning, but, by the end of the season they were shooting in the
mid-eighties, to mid-nineties. Lou VanKoevering runs the
program and has a great time with all the Vets. Based on the ongoing
comments by the
volunteers and shooters, Friday mornings are the high point of their
week.
Awards are given to the top three
shooters in the wheelchair class and
the top three ambulatory shooters. There is also a “most improved
scores” award. Trophies are awarded on the total cumulative
score, which makes it requisite for the shooter to attend all
matches in order to earn a trophy.
On the PR front, a great write up
in the Grand Rapids Press appeared
last season. This is an excellent public service program run by our
club and I hope that we can continue it for many years to come. Our
next season will start up in September and run through May.
